Students will study American Literature in this course.
Not only will this be a survey of the vast quantity of
classic literature written by American authors, but it
will also provide opportunities to investigate specific
themes as they apply to life. Several works will be read
and discussed thoroughly both in class and on paper.
Students will write several scholarly papers, do some
creative-response writing, make several public presentations,
and generally improve comprehension and writing skills;
vocabulary activities and journal writing will also be
included. Students will read and write, listen and share,
and emerge better and more insightful as a result. |

| English 12 (Honors English) |

Students will study English Literature
in this course. Not only will this be a chronological
survey of the vast quantity of classic literature written
by English authors, but it will also provide opportunities
to investigate specific themes as they apply to life.
Several works will be read and discussed thoroughly
both in class and on paper. Students will write several
scholarly papers, do some creative-response writing,
make several public presentations, and generally improve
comprehension and writing skills; vocabulary activities
and journal writing will also be included. Students
will read and write, listen and share, and emerge better
and more insightful as a result.
Honors English is available to the seniors through
their senior English Literature class. In addition
to regular classwork, students will complete assignments
from the Honors Syllabus as required. Students must
have a 90% cumulative average in previous English classes
and a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above for admission
to the Honors track. They must maintain an 87% of better
in order to remain in the program. |

| Creative Writing |

Offered only to Juniors and seniors. This class explores
and develops writing skills in poetry, short story and
drama. |

| Journalism |
1/2 Credit |
Students in journalism class will produce a monthly
newspaper, the Panther Pause. Students will learn the
fundamentals of journalistic skills and techniques, gaining
experience in news writing, feature writing, sports writing,
interviewing, and editorial writing. |
