Science

Developments in science and technology have improved ways of living and have become a major influence on culture. Because of the impact it has on social, economic and political life, every citizen needs to have a fundamental understanding of science. By combining the functional understanding of science with God's word, an increased understanding of God and His creative power is gained.

Health 1 Credit

The principles of health, well-being and basic functions of the human body and its systems are studied. Emphasis is also placed on the care of the body and mind to encourage students to seek and maintain an optimal level of functioning. Topics included for consideration are first aid, safety, drug abuse, mental health, personal appearance, and alcohol and tobacco use. This course is designed for freshmen.

Biology 1 Credit

Biology is intended to interest students in the "study of life." Topics include anatomy and physiology, cellular and molecular biology, photosynthesis and respiration, reproduction and development, genetics and theories of origins. Weekly labs.

Action Chemistry 1 Credit

This course is a student activity-centered laboratory program in general chemistry. It is designed to meet the needs and interests of students who generally are planning to terminate their formal schooling upon graduation from high school, to continue their education at a junior college or technical school, to enter a nurse's training hospital, to take a short-term training for some other science-related career, or to major in a non-science field at a college or university.

Chemistry 1 Credit

Prerequisite - a minimum grade of C in Algebra I

An introduction to modern chemistry that will prepare students for college General Chemistry. Topics include modern concepts of atomic structure and bonding, balancing reactions, the mole, periodicity, gas laws and acid-base reactions. Weekly labs.

Environmental Science is an introductory course to the methods of science and the principles of ecology. Topics covered will be the major biomes, energy resources and human impact on the environment.

Physics 1 Credit

Prerequisite - a minimum grade of C in both Algebra II or Geometry

Physics is designed to be of benefit to students who have an interest in the Physical world, and primarily to those who are science or math oriented. Energy and matter are the basic themes and are elaborated upon practically, theoretically, and mathematically in such items as static and dynamic mechanics, thermodynamics, waves, particles, and electricity.
